Johan Bakayoko could return to the RB Leipzig squad for Tuesday’s Champions League match against PSV Eindhoven. Manager Martin Demichelis confirmed that the disciplinary matter involving the Belgian winger had been settled, opening the possibility of a return against the former club he left to join Leipzig in the summer of 2025.
Bakayoko had been left out of Leipzig’s matchday squad for the previous three games, prompting questions about his absence. Before the PSV fixture, Demichelis said the situation had followed a minor mistake by the 23-year-old. “He made a small mistake. But that will stay between us. We spoke to each other, he trained normally on Sunday. I’ve already forgotten what he did. The matter is resolved,” the Leipzig coach said.
A place in Tuesday’s squad is not guaranteed. Demichelis’ comments make a return possible but do not confirm selection. The match would offer Bakayoko a significant test and a chance to regain his place in the team, after struggling to establish himself consistently.
Leipzig reportedly paid €18 million to sign him from PSV, but his spell in Germany has not met the club’s expectations. His return has fallen short of the hopes raised by his recruitment. Having shown his quality in Eindhoven, the winger now needs to make a more regular contribution and have a greater impact. Demichelis’ relaxed description of the incident suggests Leipzig would prefer to move on rather than let the disagreement linger.
