Zamalek is keeping Moatamed Gamal in his role and postponing a decision on a foreign coach. Maher Gharib, the club’s media department director, also reaffirmed Zamalek’s respect for the refereeing team while calling for an explanation of what happened during the match.
Speaking to Karim Ramzi on Radio Mega FM, Gharib said: « The refereeing team has all our respect and esteem, but Zamalek is asking for an explanation of what happened during the match. We reject any misconduct, but the opposite is what happened; we would have issued a statement rejecting any transgression. »
He also said Imam Ashour had apologised to Moatamed Gamal for the way he celebrated a decision after the goal, adding that the gesture did credit to the player. Gharib said Gamal was feeling better and was due to join Zamalek’s delegation in Rwanda tomorrow. He denied that Chikobanza had asked not to make the trip.
On the club’s structure, Gharib said Hussein El Zanaty’s appointment as sporting director would be announced. The possibility of appointing a foreign head coach had been considered, but the decision will wait until the new sporting director takes up the post. In the meantime, he said, Moatamed Gamal continues in his duties at the club.
