Aspas: “Everyone wants to be Barcelona”

“Everyone wants to be Barcelona,” Iago Aspas said. He illustrated his point by referring to Barcelona’s 1-4 away win on Tuesday: “We all want to win 1-4 away from home like they did on Tuesday, but we don’t all have the same resources or players.”

On Thursday, Celta supporters are preparing for one of the season’s most exciting fixtures, against Juventus. The Italian side is a difficult opponent, but matches like this also remind Aspas of the pleasure of playing in Europe. With retirement drawing closer, he wants to savour the moment fully.

Aspas believes the team remains committed to an approach it also had last season. He says that since Claudio arrived, the team has wanted to keep the ball and play in the opposition half. But opponents play too, and get to know the team: each match becomes a different tactical battle, with the coaches trying to outmanoeuvre one another.

Aspas also stressed the importance of the home fixture: “We have to start picking up three points and give the people at home something to celebrate. It’s a difficult match against a great team, one of the biggest in the competition, but they have eleven players, just like us.”
