Vinícius Júnior will miss the clásico against Barcelona, scheduled for 25 October in the Spanish league. The Spanish federation’s disciplinary commission announced on Wednesday that the Real Madrid winger had been suspended for four matches following his dismissal against Villarreal.
The commission’s decision cited two grounds: Vinícius pulled Nathan Saliba’s hair and then protested to the referee. The incident occurred last Saturday in the eighth round of the Spanish league against Villarreal. During a counterattack, Vinícius had scored his team’s second goal, but it was disallowed after a video assistant referee (VAR) review. The suspension therefore rules him out of the meeting with Barcelona, described as the league leaders and defending champions.
His absence is a blow to Real Madrid ahead of the clásico. Vinícius is one of the team’s main attacking players this season, according to the details accompanying the disciplinary decision.
