Aston Villa have scored six goals in the Champions League and have a perfect record, with 6 points. That leaves them in a different position from Fenerbahçe, who have one point after drawing with Roma on the opening matchday.
The opening-round results help explain the gap between the sides: Aston Villa won 3-2 away to Club Bruges, while Fenerbahçe shared the points with Roma in a 1-1 draw. Those results gave the two European campaigns different starting points; Aston Villa’s tally now stands at 6 points.
The third matchday, scheduled for 20 and 21 October, brings two more fixtures. Fenerbahçe will host Slavia Prague, while Aston Villa welcome Viking at their stadium. The Norwegian side will arrive after springing a surprise against Bayern Munich, drawing 3-3. For Aston Villa, the home fixture offers a chance to maintain their perfect record; Fenerbahçe will be looking to improve on their one-point tally.
