In the 64th minute of the match between Roma and Real Madrid, the Spanish club appealed for a penalty after Endrick went down in the area following contact with goalkeeper Gollini. Referee François Letexier rejected the appeal. The match was played on Wednesday evening in the second matchday of the league phase.
The incident was assessed by Iturralde González, a refereeing expert associated with the newspaper “AS” and radio station “Cadena SER”. He considered the referee’s decision correct, then criticised Endrick’s actions: « Endrick simulated his fall; he even deserved a yellow card. »
Iturralde González also cited the forward’s position: « His body was ahead. It’s a difficult decision; it’s offside. » His assessment thus differed from Real Madrid’s appeal, which did not result in a penalty being awarded for the incident.
