“It has been very, very tough; we could have conceded more goals,” Luis Enrique said after PSG’s 4-2 win over Manchester City at the Etihad. His team led 3-0 at half-time, but the coach stressed that the advantage had not settled the match.

“We started very well, scored three goals, and you think the game is over, but it isn’t: we had problems,” he said. Luis Enrique also highlighted City’s response while praising his players’ commitment. He spoke highly of the way Maresca’s team plays and said he enjoys matches of this kind. “What I liked most about my team was our attitude and commitment. We didn’t stop, even after scoring three goals,” he added.

The coach also acknowledged that PSG had been fortunate. “We were lucky; we could have conceded more goals,” he said.

Asked whether PSG had sent a message to Europe after its two most recent Champions League titles, Luis Enrique rejected that interpretation. “No. What message? The message is that the team that wins the European Cup is the one that counts. It is not important to be the best at this stage of the competition,” he replied.
