Paris Saint-Germain claimed a 4-2 win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium after taking a three-goal lead into half-time. Manchester City scored twice in the second half, but Maghnes Akliouche sealed the Parisian victory: with the score at 3-1, he capitalised on an error by Gianluigi Donnarumma in controlling the ball to score the fourth goal.

The Italian goalkeeper’s performance drew strong criticism from Mehdi Benatia, a former captain of Morocco’s national team and former sporting director of Olympique de Marseille. The former player, who also played for Juventus and Bayern Munich, discussed the Champions League match on « Canal Football Club », broadcast on Canal+.

« In this kind of match, people usually talk about the first 15 minutes. Here, they conceded two goals in 15 minutes, so it is obvious that he is responsible for the first goal, and he could have done better », Benatia said. He also described Donnarumma’s display as disastrous, arguing that the goalkeeper had caused a second goal when Manchester City began to take the initiative.

Donnarumma joined Manchester City from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, two years ago. PSG’s victory at the Etihad Stadium was secured despite the opposition’s response after the break, with a fourth goal bringing a decisive sequence to a close.
