Atlético returned to training after its victory over Manchester United, and Simeone and Mateu Alemany spoke at the start of the session. The starters trained apart while the rest of the group followed a separate programme. The return to work was marked both by the exchange between the coach and Mateu Alemany and by a split in the players’ training activities.
Simeone then arranged a match for the Champions League substitutes. Pubill again lined up at right-back. In attack, Jonathan David and Sorloth were paired up front. The session therefore gave the substitutes involved a chance to play a match, with the two forwards together in attack.
Koke worked in the gym. He had missed Tuesday’s session following his mother’s death. Cardoso, who was unwell, was also absent from training. The starters, meanwhile, continued working apart from the group taking part in the match.
The training return combined separate work for the starters with a match for the Champions League substitutes and game situations involving Pubill, Jonathan David and Sorloth. Koke was able to train indoors, while Cardoso did not take part because he was unwell.
