Valencia has opened a training session to the press for the first time in three years. On Thursday, media were allowed to watch the first 15 minutes. The move comes amid the arrival of sporting director Braulio Vázquez and coach Javier Aguirre.
Around 15 journalists and photographers watched the opening part of the session at the José Manuel Ochotorena ground. Javier Aguirre kept an eye on the goalkeepers’ work, while his coaching staff worked with the rest of the squad. The players began with activation drills, including rondos, in what was described as a positive atmosphere.
Luis Rioja, who has had problems in recent months with his heel bone and plantar fat pad, took part with the group. Centre-back José Copete, returning after seven months out with an injury to the meniscus in his left knee, also trained normally and at the same pace as his teammates.
Valencia are due to train for the final time this Friday, with attention on the progress of Rioja and Copete. The team will face Athletic at Mestalla on Saturday, where Javier Aguirre will make his home debut after beginning his tenure at El Sardinero.
