The Rafa Nadal Academy is opening a sports centre in Bahrain, on Amwaj Islands. Named the Rafa Nadal Tennis Center Bahrain, it is scheduled to welcome visitors in the final quarter of 2027. It will be the institution’s ninth centre worldwide, developed in partnership with HARVE, a company backed by Infracorp and specialising in hospitality, leisure and lifestyle projects.
The new site will extend a network that already includes academies in Manacor and Kuwait, as well as Rafa Nadal Tennis Centers in Costa Mujeres, Mexico; Sani, Greece; Hong Kong; Marbella; and Punta Cana, in the Dominican Republic. The Rafa Nadal Tennis Program in Egypt is also part of the organisation’s international presence.
The choice of Amwaj Islands places the project in a residential and tourist destination in Bahrain, known for its seaside setting and dining and leisure options. The centre aims to bring together tennis, wellbeing and quality services, with the ambition of becoming a meeting place for tennis enthusiasts.
HARVE brings experience in developing hospitality, tourism and leisure projects, while the Rafa Nadal Academy contributes its training methods and sporting expertise. The partnership also reflects HARVE’s aim to introduce international brands and concepts to the Bahraini market.
Joan Suasi, the Rafa Nadal Academy’s director of international expansion, said he was “very pleased” to extend the organisation’s presence in the region. He also voiced the hope that the centre would help grow tennis in Bahrain and support local talent.
Abdulaziz Tawfeeqi, HARVE’s director, described the opening as “a new milestone” in the development of destinations and experiences combining sport and lifestyle. He said the centre would offer a high-level tennis experience, built on an internationally recognised training method, advanced facilities and specialised coaches.
