Barcelona are posting a remarkable scoring projection early in the season. After eight league rounds and two matches in the league phase of Europe’s leading competition, their average stands at 4.3 goals per game, a pace that would take them to 262 goals by the end of the campaign.
That figure is a projection, not an achieved total. The scenario is described as almost impossible to fulfil, since it would require, among other things, winning every match with outstanding efficiency. Even so, it illustrates the scale of Barcelona’s numbers in this opening stretch of the campaign.
Even when opponents scored first and made matches more complicated, the team responded quickly and went on to win by a comfortable margin. Its attacking approach helps explain that output: Barcelona move towards the opposition goal with purpose and, when space opens up, attack it without hesitation. That forward intent sets this side apart from periods when the club relied too heavily on sideways passing.
