“We played a great match; we did not deserve this result,” Hugo Álvarez said after Celta’s defeat to Juventus. The winger, who scored Celta’s goal, called the Italian side’s victory unfair. Juventus completed its comeback with Kolo Muani’s goal in stoppage time.
The academy graduate said the team now had to accept the setback and work towards a win. “This competition is very tough: we know that if we do not take three points each time, we will be knocked out,” he said, adding that his side would give everything in Glasglow.
Despite the defeat, Celta’s second in the continental competition, Álvarez said he was leaving with “good feelings”. He felt his team had competed on equal terms with a strong opponent. The under-21 international also stressed the need to address the small mistakes made during the match so they would not happen again.
His comments reflected both disappointment with the result and belief in the team’s performance: accept the defeat, then work on the details in pursuit of the win they want.
