Chelsea has announced that Reece James has successfully undergone knee surgery. The club captain was injured in training and has now begun his recovery under the supervision of the medical team. The announcement confirms both the operation and the start of a recovery process overseen by the club.
Chelsea also said the procedure was minor. It followed a series of medical examinations, after which surgery was considered the appropriate way to treat the injury. The club has not provided a timeframe for James’s absence; its update focused on the procedure and his medical care.
The injury had already ruled him out of Saturday’s match against Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge. Chelsea won the game 5-1. James’s absence was therefore due to the training injury, before the examinations led to the decision to operate.
The club said it would support its captain throughout his recovery, until he is able to play with the team again. For now, Chelsea has confirmed that this recovery phase is under way but has not given a date for James’s return to the pitch.
