Hamza Abdelkarim joins Barça B as the team look to extend their run of four consecutive wins. Juliano Belletti’s reserve side host Utebo FC on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the Estadi Johan Cruyff, in the seventh round of Segunda Federación. Barça Atlètic’s aim is to stay top of the table and build on a strong start to the season.
The match will mark Abdelkarim’s debut for the reserve team, for which he is registered. The Egyptian forward has played only 12 minutes for the first team this season: four against Rayo and eight against Getafe. Raphinha’s return against Betis makes a first-team call-up less necessary for him, after his involvement with the senior side had so far been limited. Belletti still has to decide whether to start him or keep him for the second half.
Barça B’s run has included a 1-0 win over SD Logroñés, settled by Juan Ybarra’s goal in the 89th minute after a match that demanded patience. Before that, the reserve side beat CD Tudelano 2-1, Peña Sport FC 4-0 and UD Barbastro 2-1. They have won five of six matches. Defensive solidity has been one of Barça Atlètic’s strengths, while the attack has also contributed to the run.
Utebo arrive after a goalless draw against CD Arnedo. The match will give Abdelkarim an initial opportunity to contribute to Barça B’s winning streak.
