Real Madrid is calling for the « immediate resignation » of Javier Tebas, the Liga president, after his comments comparing Real Madrid TV with Goebbels’s propaganda methods. In a statement published on Friday, the club condemned the comparison as extremely serious and offensive.
Tebas had posted on social media on Friday morning, targeting the role of Real Madrid TV in particular. He wrote: « This method recalls the propaganda mechanisms used by Goebbels ». The club responded later in the day with an official statement.
Real Madrid said it was « absolutely intolerable and extremely serious » for someone holding two positions of responsibility in Spanish football to compare the club’s methods with those of the Nazi regime. The statement noted that Tebas is also a vice-president of the Federation. The club added that the official’s clarification that he was not referring to Nazi ideology did not make his comments any less offensive in its view.
The statement addressed more than this dispute. Real Madrid also returned to the Negreira case, criticising the Liga and the Federation for their lack of response. The club said it had approached UEFA directly to seek full clarification about payments made over a period of years by FC Barcelona to the vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees.
The case, the statement said, informs Real Madrid’s calls for reform. The club is seeking a complete overhaul of the refereeing system and of governance, management, oversight and disciplinary structures, as well as the replacement of those who held positions of responsibility during the period in question.
The club concluded by questioning Javier Tebas’s impartiality, which it considers incompatible with his institutional responsibilities. It is demanding his immediate resignation from his roles at the Liga and the Federation. The dispute between the Liga president and Real Madrid is escalating.
