“With Eric Garcia and Gerard Martín, we have to wait and see the results,” Hansi Flick said of the two players’ physical condition after they were substituted with problems during the match against Betis. The FC Barcelona coach said he could not yet provide more detail: “We have to wait and see the results.”
Flick said Eric believed he had suffered only a knock, but stressed that they would have to wait until the following day. Gerard Martín’s situation, like that of the other players in question, still needed to be assessed. “For now, the most important thing is to recover. Recovery is very important, as is how we manage the minutes on Tuesday. We’ll see; we’ll look for 11 players,” he said. He also mentioned minor problems for Koundé and Eric, and reiterated that the medical results had to be awaited.
That uncertainty is part of the build-up to Tuesday’s match against PSG. Flick said his first priority was to give the squad time to recover, before deciding how to manage playing time. He also praised the players’ daily level of work and commitment in training, describing the day’s victory as “incredible” for his team.
The coach was also full of praise for Lamine Yamal. “When you see the first goal he scored, it’s incredible; right now, he is the best player in the world,” Flick said. He expressed great satisfaction with Yamal’s performance and attitude, adding that the player was “100% focused and committed”. Flick also acknowledged the pressure that comes with his role and the fact that he has played every match, while saying that his commitment remains undiminished.
Flick also praised the work on set pieces and their effectiveness on the pitch. He was pleased that the second goal had come before half-time and credited Heiko Westermann and Dela De la Fuente with doing good work in that area.
On the match, he acknowledged that Betis had been “fantastic with their speed and intensity”, while saying his team had also played well and deserved the victory. He described it as an intense match, enjoyable for fans and people who love football. Finally, on the winning record, Flick said, according to Mundo Deportivo: “Records are nice, but we want to win titles and achieve bigger things; that’s why we play football.”
