Manuel Neuer is a doubt ahead of Bayern Munich’s match against Arsenal. The Bayern goalkeeper is uncertain for next Wednesday’s meeting at the Allianz Arena, on the third matchday of the League. Fresh concerns over his availability have cast doubt on his involvement.

The initial plan was to rest Neuer against Leipzig yesterday to give him time to recover for the European fixture. After Bayern’s 6-1 win over Leipzig on Saturday in the Bundesliga, the club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, said: « There was a little fluid in his foot, and that meant he couldn’t take part today. We’ll see whether the situation allows him to play on Wednesday. »

Much will depend on whether Neuer resumes full team training. If he has not rejoined the group at the start of the week, Jonas Urbig is expected to start in goal for Bayern against Arsenal again. That remains a conditional scenario: Neuer’s participation has not been confirmed.

Arsenal go into the fixture with five wins, no draws and one defeat from six Premier League matches. They sit second on 15 points, having scored 10 goals and conceded five. Across their last five league games, their record is four wins, no draws and one loss.

At home in the Premier League, Arsenal have won all three matches, scoring seven goals and conceding two. Away from home, they have two wins, one defeat and no draws in three games, with three goals scored and three conceded. Across their league matches, they average 1.67 goals scored and 0.83 conceded per game. Against that backdrop, the uncertainty surrounding Bayern’s goalkeeper is a notable concern before the match, though his availability remains unresolved.
