David Sánchez predicts that a Barcelona win over Real Madrid in the next Clásico would put the Negreira controversy back at the centre of discussion. The Spanish journalist believes such a result could revive allegations that Barcelona benefited from refereeing decisions. He summed up that prospect with a provocative phrase: “the dirty Nigerian league!”

Sánchez made the point during a radio appearance, saying expressions of that kind would circulate again if Barcelona won the Clásico. The phrase echoes debate surrounding the Negreira case, which continues to feature in discussions about Spanish refereeing. This is not a result that has already happened: his remarks concern what might follow a possible Barça victory.

The journalist also criticised what he regards as a double standard in commentary on refereeing. In his view, decisions favouring Real Madrid are often described as human errors, whereas decisions benefiting Barcelona draw more criticism and attacks. He sees that difference in reaction as another source of controversy surrounding the two teams.

Sánchez also stressed what he considers a gap between the sides in their football. He believes Barcelona are playing well, while Real Madrid are not at the same level. Barça’s league results offer a point of reference for that assessment. The club top La Liga with 27 points after winning all nine matches. They have scored 39 goals and conceded 9. Their recent form is also strong, with victories in each of their last five league games.

Sánchez expects the teams’ performances and results to keep fuelling discussion of the Negreira case. He predicts the debate will return if Barcelona win their next home match. His comments therefore connect the controversy to Barça’s results without assuming how the next Clásico will end.
