Omar Marmoush scored his first goal for Tottenham Hotspur in Monday evening’s 3-1 win over Coventry City in the seventh round of the Premier League. The Egypt international was pleased to find the net, but said his team’s victory mattered even more. Tottenham sit 16th with 6 points after seven matches.

Tottenham have one win, three draws and three defeats in the league, with six goals scored and 10 conceded. Across their last five Premier League matches, they have one victory, three draws and one loss. Against that backdrop, Marmoush stressed the significance of the result as well as his goal: « I am very happy to have turned my efforts into this goal, but I am even happier to have collected the three points. »

The player on loan from Manchester City also reflected on the team’s recent performances: « We learn from every match and, as I said, we have put in great performances over the past few weeks, but the results have not gone our way, and this victory is only a beginning. » He praised Coventry City as a good side that is dangerous on the counterattack. Marmoush also credited Ben Davies’s third goal with helping Tottenham see out the match: « […] it secured the three points for us and helped us calm the pace of the match. »

Marmoush also praised coach Roberto De Zerbi, saying he helps every player, pays attention to the smallest details and supports them personally. He said he likes the enthusiasm and passion De Zerbi brings to the team and that the players trust his style of play. Marmoush concluded by describing the squad as « a big family » and saying: « we will fight for one another until the end. »

Tottenham now prepare to visit Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next Saturday for the London derby in the eighth round.
