Iga Swiatek has decided to end her 2026 season, describing it as a year that moved “from less to more”. She will therefore play no further tournaments this year. Joao Fonseca and Eva Lys had also announced this week that they were ending their seasons.

A former world No. 1 for 125 weeks, Swiatek announced her decision in a statement posted on her social media accounts. She said she wanted to bring her schedule to a close after a demanding season. The decision means not only an end to her tournament campaign, but also time set aside to recover physically.

The Pole won one title this year, at the WTA 1000 event in Toronto. A seven-time Grand Slam champion, she linked her decision to fatigue and the demands of the season. “This has been one of the most demanding seasons of my career, full of challenges, changes and lessons… The last few months have been incredibly intense, and I feel I need to rest and fully recover. That is exactly what I will do, this time for a little longer,” she said.

Swiatek also wanted to highlight the progress made over the course of the season, particularly in its second half. “I am especially proud of the work we have done during the second half of the year and the progress we have made. This gives me a lot of confidence for what lies ahead,” she added. Despite finishing with just one title, she described that period of work as a source of confidence.

“I have decided to end my season here, which means I will not play any more tournaments this year. I am grateful for everything this year has taught me, and I still enjoy what I do enormously. As always, I will return with passion and motivation to keep improving,” Swiatek concluded. Her break will give her time to rest and recover physically after a season she called particularly demanding.
