A video features Davies against Arsenal from his new position, as the teams met at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday night in the third round of the League. Bayern Munich were not trailing Arsenal at half-time. The footage centred on Davies therefore accompanies a match in which the London side had initially gone ahead, but Bayern did not reach the interval behind.

Arsenal had taken the lead in the 25th minute. Eberechi Eze finished after Martin Ødegaard sent a long pass down the left: Eze was left one-on-one with Manuel Neuer and scored. That move had put Arsenal in front before the state of the match changed during the first half, with Bayern not behind at the break.

The teams came into the third round with different records in the competition. Bayern Munich had 4 points, following a win against Bodø Glimt and a draw with Viking. Arsenal, meanwhile, had won its first two League matches, against Napoli in Italy and Lille in France. That gave the London side a positive start, but did not settle the outcome of its meeting with Bayern.

Arsenal’s Premier League position offers a separate measure of the club’s situation and should not be confused with its European campaign. The team stood second with 18 points after 7 matches. Its record was 6 wins, no draws and 1 defeat, with 11 goals scored and 5 conceded. In its last 5 league outings, Arsenal had won 4 times and lost once, with no draws. Those figures describe the club’s form in England; they do not change the picture of the League match itself: Arsenal scored first, but Bayern were not trailing at half-time.
