Bayern insiders feared Kompany was pushing himself too hard

People inside Bayern Munich feared Vincent Kompany was pushing himself too hard at work. Concerns about the Belgian’s working habits had been raised in the weeks before Friday’s incident, a report relayed by Football Presse said.
The club confirmed that Kompany, 40, received medical attention after collapsing while watching a training session involving the reserve team. Tests are continuing to establish the nature of his condition, Max Eberl said, and no recovery timeframe has been set.
Recent context also includes Kompany’s comments after Bayern’s 2-2 Champions League draw with Arsenal. He had spoken about continuing to work while dealing with a virus. The concerns about his tendency to take on too much remain reported concerns, not an established cause of his collapse.
Eberl stressed that the manager’s return would not be rushed. The club is waiting for medical assessments before considering a recovery schedule. “Vinnie will be given all the time he needs,” he said, adding that Bayern was not setting a timeframe and that the first step was to establish what was happening. He said the recovery would be discussed in weeks, not days.
At Saturday’s press conference, held in Kompany’s absence, Danks said he had spoken briefly with him on Friday, only to check on his wellbeing. He also said football operations were in the staff’s hands and that they would work together to keep the club moving forward.
Danks acknowledged that persuading Kompany to rest was difficult. He described him as a hard-working leader, while stressing that rest matters when someone has a virus. The immediate priority is therefore to continue the examinations and give Kompany the time needed to recover, without announcing a timetable.
