Everton will again be without Jack Grealish after David Moyes confirmed the winger would not be available against Coventry in the Premier League. It will be Grealish’s third consecutive match missed, following his absence from a training session last week. Moyes did not give a date for the player’s return to the team.

Grealish, on loan from Manchester City to Everton for a second successive season, missed the last two matches against Newcastle. Everton won both: one in the League Cup last 16 and the other in the league. After Monday’s 0-1 win at St James Park, Moyes said Grealish still had a future at the club, but could not say when he would return.

Speaking before the home match against Coventry, Moyes was clear about the player’s availability: “No, Jack is not available.” He did, however, indicate that work with the player would resume: “I wouldn’t give you the plan, but we will be working with Jack again soon.”

Everton and Moyes have been guarded about the circumstances. The issue is understood to be connected to an unauthorised absence from training. Grealish did not play on the previous Thursday because of “a disciplinary breach”; on Monday, his absence was attributed to a lack of fitness. At the time, Moyes said he could not comment.

Asked whether the upcoming international break could help resolve the situation, the manager replied: “We just need to wait and see how things go.”

Grealish is looking to revive his career at Everton after losing prominence at City, which he joined in 2021. He had also missed an Everton match against Chelsea on 17 October, a home defeat. Last season, his loan at Everton was cut short by injury. His contract is due to expire at the end of the season.
