Fulham and Newcastle drew 1-1, with Rodrigo Muniz equalising to deny Newcastle and head coach Matthias Jaissle what he regarded as an important win. Jaissle also felt there had been a clear foul before Barry’s goal. After the match, he said Newcastle had made “wrong decisions” in the final third.
The contest remained in the balance until the closing minutes. Newcastle took the lead through Jacob Murphy in the 80th minute, but Muniz levelled three minutes later. The substitute was central to the decisive move: Palacios combined with Alex Iwobi before finding the striker. After the ball bounced around in the area, Muniz forced it over the line. It was his first league goal since August 2025.
Newcastle carried more attacking threat after the break and had a greater share of the play. Harvey Barnes offered an outlet, while Bernd Leno saved two attempts from the winger before half-time. After Fulham’s equaliser, Lewis Hall came close to restoring Newcastle’s lead, but Leno denied him.
The point did little to ease Jaissle’s frustration. Newcastle missed the chance to move into the top half after taking the lead. The manager had asked his team to play patiently and was also unhappy when a Newcastle goal was ruled out in the 33rd minute. He described the concession as “slapstick” and considered the decision to disallow the goal soft.
Jaissle has faced criticism of his tactics and training methods since replacing Eddie Howe shortly before the start of the season. For Fulham, the late equaliser salvaged a point after a performance that had lacked spark before the team fought back.
