Sevilla reacted angrily after drawing 2-2 with Logroño United at Las Gaunas. At the centre of its frustration was Marta Masferrer’s goal, initially disallowed and then awarded in added time after three reviews using the FVS video system. Referee Águeda López’s decision prompted strong controversy late in the match.

The referee first ruled out the goal, believing Esther Martín-Pozuelo had committed a foul. She later allowed it to stand, judging that she could play the advantage. Sevilla protested and claimed that the scorer had fouled goalkeeper Esther Sullastres. The match therefore ended with the points shared after a disputed sequence.

The result comes with Sevilla sixth in Liga on 18 points after 12 matches. Its record in the competition is five wins, three draws and four defeats, with 17 goals scored and 19 conceded. Across its last five Liga matches, the team has one win, two draws and two defeats.

After the final whistle, the club voiced its displeasure on its website with the headline: “They snatch the victory (firmly grasped) from its hands (2-2).” It also offered its account of the match, saying David Losada’s team had done everything to win, including coming back into the game, but that the referee’s reversal had led to the home side’s equaliser.

Replying to a Teledeporte video summarising the closing minutes at Las Gaunas, the club wrote: “We still don’t know why she changed her mind after disallowing it.” It later posted a message of collective support: “Against adversity, incomprehension and misfortune. Standing taller than ever and full of energy to achieve our goals. Together!”

Sevilla also responded to a Liga F post with a string of synonyms for “take back”, saying the action and the subsequent refereeing decision remained unexplained. The closing stages also saw Julián Mejías, Sevilla’s assistant coach, sent off. The match report says he refused to leave the pitch and continued addressing the officials. A suspension of several matches is possible, but has not been presented as already imposed.
