Argentina: Messi’s teammates brace for “very difficult” farewell on 6 October

Upon their arrival in Buenos Aires, some members of the squad spoke to the media about how they expect to experience the occasion. Messi’s teammates anticipate a “very difficult” moment, full of sadness.

Giuliano Simeone, who also had praise for Julián Alvarez, hopes the day will never end. “It will be a very special day, the farewell to our captain, who has brought so much joy to the whole country. And, obviously, it will be sad,” he said.

Cuti Romero, who appears set to become the first captain, was also emotional. “We will make sure he has a good time, as we always have. Obviously, after the tremendous tournament he had, it is surprising that he will no longer be there. It will be strange not to have him with the national team,” he said.
