Tebas responds to Real Madrid and takes aim at Florentino Pérez

Javier Tebas has again responded to Real Madrid, with a swipe at Florentino Pérez. The LaLiga president reacted quickly to the Madrid club’s statement with a firm message posted on his X account.

In that statement, Real Madrid called for Tebas to be replaced by someone “capable of managing [LaLiga] and developing its full potential with the basic duty of neutrality”. The club also accused the executive of using “his institutional position to continue discrediting and attacking Real Madrid”.

Real Madrid said it was “intolerable” for the LaLiga president to use his role to “continue discrediting and attacking Real Madrid”. The club also described it as “very worrying” that the person responsible for representing and protecting the interests of all LaLiga clubs “continues to be repeatedly obsessed with Real Madrid”.

Tebas responded: “I have read the statement. I fully agree with one sentence: the president of LaLiga is not the owner of the competition. Neither is the president of Real Madrid.”

The LaLiga president argued that representing all clubs does not mean adopting the position of one of them. “Defending the interests of a club does not mean taking on its position. And representing everyone does not mean obeying the most powerful. The interests of the competition, of LaLiga, must be defended,” he added.

Tebas concluded with another message to the Madrid club: “I am neither the owner of LaLiga nor will I run it as if it belonged to one club. Respect for everyone. Subordination to no one.”
