Mbappé says advising Olise to leave would be ‘unfair to Bayern’

Mbappé believes it would be disrespectful to advise Michael Olise to leave Bayern. In an interview published by German newspaper Bild, the Real Madrid forward discussed last summer’s rumours surrounding Olise and Real Madrid, while also explaining why he did not join Klopp’s Liverpool.

“I am aware of the speculation,” Mbappé said regarding Olise. “But I know that feeling very well: when I played for PSG, there were countless rumours. And I think it would be disrespectful to advise a player to leave. It would be unfair to Bayern.” He stressed that Bayern are “a fantastic club” where Michael could achieve great things, while saying that any club in the world would like to have Michael Olise because he is “an exceptional player”.

On Liverpool, Mbappé confirmed that the possibility had been special, but positive. He explained that he would have liked to join the club at that time, but did not yet feel ready to leave his country. He wanted to return to his hometown, Paris, after having played only one year at Monaco, in order to be in familiar surroundings. That is why he chose PSG.

He added that several clubs had been interested, including Dortmund, while saying that he found it difficult to speak about it: rejecting a club can make it appear that something was wrong, when that was not the case at all. In his view, they were all great clubs, but only one could be chosen; at that point, he preferred to remain in his hometown.

Mbappé also paid tribute to José Mourinho, whom he called “The Special One”. He said the coach was very intelligent, which explained his many successes throughout his career. According to Mbappé, Mourinho is close to the players, takes a great interest in them, is a leader and knows exactly how to motivate them. “It is a privilege to play under him,” he added.

On Antonio Rüdiger, his Real Madrid team-mate, Mbappé said his choice was easy. He acknowledged that many supporters see him as a little crazy because of his playing style and his challenges on the pitch. But he stressed the contrast in the dressing room, where Rüdiger is, in his view, a kind and approachable person.
