Araujo is already convincing Liverpool as his loan could lead to a transfer

Araujo’s loan move to Liverpool could develop into a permanent transfer, with the defender already beginning to convince at the English club.

Since arriving at Liverpool, Ronald Araujo has played seven matches, five of them in the starting line-up. On loan from Barcelona until the end of the season, the Uruguayan defender has a purchase option set at €55 million.

His adaptation has stood out particularly because of his versatility. In his first Premier League appearances, he was deployed centrally against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, before Andoni Iraola started him at right-back against Ipswich, Fulham and Bournemouth, as well as against Atlético in the Champions League and Tottenham in the EFL Cup.

Andoni Iraola has praised his ability to play in different positions, along with his performances and attitude since arriving at Anfield. Against Atlético, his back-heel assist made a particular impression on supporters, while his displays have strengthened the sense that this loan could become more than a temporary solution for Iraola’s side.

The €55 million option agreed by Barcelona and Liverpool does not oblige the English club to keep the player. However, his strong start could lead the sporting department to seriously consider activating it if he maintains this level during the season; Araujo is under contract with Barcelona until 2031.

Having arrived in England in search of more playing time, Araujo has so far responded with performances capable of turning his loan into a permanent deal. His start has therefore fuelled speculation over a possible continuation of his time in England.

After the match against Atlético, Araujo said that he follows Barcelona and is very happy for his former team-mates. In the same remarks, he also said he considers Barcelona among the favourites to win the Champions League.

In that context, his future at Liverpool is once again a subject of discussion. According to media close to the club, his adaptation has been positive and his move to the right has helped improve the team’s defensive solidity.
