Kylian Mbappé left the France match against Turkey injured, in a major setback for both France and Real Madrid. After scoring the first goal of the Zidane era in the 54th minute, the forward felt pain in his left knee and had to receive treatment on the touchline.
Played on the left side of France’s attack by Zidane, Mbappé had put France ahead with a right-footed strike after being set up by Michael Olise, with Turkey making life very difficult for France in the first match of the coach’s tenure.
The scorer attempted to continue and even returned to the pitch, but was unable to carry on. Touching his knee with worrying gestures, he eventually went to ground before being replaced by Désiré Doué in the 59th minute.
Mbappé went back to the dressing room showing obvious pain in a knee that had already troubled him last season. He left the pitch under his own power, but with clear signs of discomfort, prompting serious concern.
After this first appearance against Turkey, France will host Greece on Monday in this Nations League, before hosting Italy on October 2 and travelling to Greece on the 5th. Zidane and José Mourinho, Real Madrid’s coach, are now awaiting tests to determine the severity of the France international’s injury.
