Jalen Duren has reportedly accepted a fully guaranteed five-year, $200 million contract to return to the Detroit Pistons, according to information his agent, Chafie Fields, shared with Shams Charania of ESPN. The reported agreement ends a salary standoff that lasted four months. Duren did not report for the Pistons’ preseason or Media Day.
The center could have pursued a maximum deal worth $287 million over five years. Two weeks earlier, he had turned down a five-year, $200 million offer from the Pistons, according to the reported account. The question of weight also contributed to the disagreement: Duren objected to weight-related clauses in some of the team’s earlier proposals.
The dispute was not solely about the numbers. Sources told Charania early in the week that Duren’s representatives believed the player felt slighted by the way the process had been handled. They particularly compared it with the team’s handling of Ausar Thompson’s extension. Thompson agreed earlier this month to a five-year, $155 million contract under the rookie salary scale.
Last season, Duren averaged 19.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while shooting 65 percent from the field. He was named an All-Star in 2026. The reported agreement therefore keeps him with the Pistons after negotiations shaped both by the difference between the figures discussed and by resentment over the weight clauses.
