Madrid CFF and Athletic meet with third place in Liga F at stake

Madrid CFF and Athletic face each other today at Fernando Torres at 18:00 in a Liga F match that puts third place at stake. Madrid CFF are defending their position with 12 points from a possible 15; Athletic have 10 and can take the spot with a victory. Both teams are behind Barcelona and Real Madrid in the standings and will be looking to head into the break on a positive note after strong starts to the season.

Athletic’s coach returns to face Madrid CFF, whom he managed in two spells. Last week, his team were up against Atlético. Before this meeting, the coach highlighted the attacking threat of his opponents: « Individually, they have a great ability to finish, and some are also comfortable when the game turns into an end-to-end contest. We have to be solid to control it. »

He also stressed the value of winning before a break: « When these breaks come around, the best thing is to go into them with a win; it helps everyone », rather than spend several days dwelling on a negative result without a quick chance to put it right.

Athletic will, however, have to do without Pinedo, who is suspended after being sent off against Atlético. In a match where both sides are targeting the same position, her absence is a factor for the Basque club to consider.
