Marcao has suffered an injury to the rectus femoris of his right quadriceps. Returning to action for Sevilla after 286 days without playing for the club, the defender did not make it to the half-hour mark against Aston Villa: he went off injured after 25 minutes.
Named in the starting line-up for the Trofeo Antonio Puerta, he was replaced by Juan Iglesias, who took his place in central defence. The club said that the previous day’s captain had suffered a myofascial injury to the rectus femoris of his right quadriceps and that his progress would be monitored.
The latest injury follows another physical setback in pre-season, with his return coming the day before. Marcao had not played for Sevilla since the away match against Real Madrid on December 20, 2025. Despite his commitment and taking a pay cut to stay at Sevilla, his run of bad luck appears to be continuing.
