Fabian Ruiz makes a bold claim about his trophy record in the Ballon d’Or race

Fabian Ruiz is making an ambitious case for his Ballon d’Or candidacy. The midfielder is pleased to have been included among the 30 nominees and believes his record in terms of titles carries weight, while recognising the quality of his rivals.

“Being among the 30 candidates is a great honour for me. I hope the Ballon d’Or jury members vote for the player who deserves it most, because simply being among the nominees is an honour in itself,” he said. He also expressed gratitude for the confidence shown in him and hopes to achieve the best possible placing this year.

Ruiz, however, draws a distinction between trophies and individual performances. “In terms of titles, I don’t think anyone has done better than me, but individually there have been fantastic players who have had excellent seasons. We have no doubt about their level,” he explained. He also said he was proud that Europe has many high-level players among the nominees.

The midfielder also discussed being sidelined for three months during the season, which he believes may have affected his chances. He nevertheless considers his presence at the season’s most important stages potentially more significant. He said he was available at those moments and played an important role with Paris Saint-Germain and his national team; for that reason, he does not believe his absence will affect the Ballon d’Or decision.
