Zinédine Zidane and Aimé Jacquet reunite after France-Belgium

On Monday, France beat Belgium 4-1 in the Nations League. After the victory, Zinédine Zidane met his former coach, Aimé Jacquet, in the corridor at the Stade de France, in a reunion described as evoking 1998.

A few moments after the win, Zidane gave spectators an unexpected and moving image. Jacquet, 84, had come to support the France team, and the two men embraced. Their brief exchange gave the post-match scene a significance beyond the result.

At a press conference, Zidane described what his former coach had passed on to his players: « Aimé, il aimait ses joueurs et c'est ce qu'il transmettait, beaucoup de confiance, de liberté, de bienveillance surtout ».

The embrace brought their relationship back into focus, with France’s victory over Belgium providing the setting for the reunion.
