PSG pays tribute to Messi before his final international match as Barcelona stays silent

Lionel Messi will play his final match for Argentina tonight, against Benin at the Monumental in Buenos Aires. Ahead of the fixture, described as the end of his international career, Paris Saint-Germain dedicated a message to him on social media. Barcelona, by contrast, has not sent Messi a message for this farewell occasion.

PSG had already paid tribute to its former player before the start of this final appearance in Argentina’s colours. The two-time European champions’ post reads: « The end of an unforgettable chapter with Argentina. Enjoy it, Leo. »

Barcelona’s silence contrasts with the gesture from Paris. Messi wore the Catalan club’s colours for many years and achieved great things there, the account of the farewell night notes. Last season, Barcelona had commented on a post in which Messi announced his international retirement, but removed its message shortly afterwards.

On this farewell night, Barça did not repeat that gesture, while Paris chose to show its support for the Argentina international. PSG’s message accompanies Messi ahead of a match presented as the last of his international career.
