With Messi’s farewell in the background, former Barcelona forward Pedro Rodríguez announced on Wednesday that he was ending his career. He shared his decision in an emotional message posted on his social media accounts.
Pedro explained his choice with feeling: « I feel that the time has come. It is time to take a step forward and begin a new chapter in my life. I leave (the pitch) proud to have fulfilled my dream and grateful to everyone who supported me in achieving it. Thank you, football, for making me very happy. »
The Spaniard retires having been one of the major stars of Spanish football. With Barcelona, he won the historic treble and sextuple. He developed at the club and produced his best performances there, after making his debut under Pep Guardiola.
During his career away from Barcelona, Pedro also made his mark in the Premier League with Chelsea, before playing in the Italian league for Lazio.
