“I am no one to ask for patience,” Pedro Martínez said at a press conference. The Real Madrid coach accepts that his team is in a difficult position after opening the EuroLeague with three consecutive defeats. He does not want to make excuses or turn a blind eye to a poor start.

“What I ask is that we work day by day, do things with effort and focus as well as we can on what is within our control,” he explained. Results cannot dictate everything, he believes, but he will not hide behind an optimistic message either: “We cannot put a blindfold in front of our eyes.”

Martínez does not see a dressing room consumed by nerves. He acknowledges, however, that the three European defeats bring “a little more unease”, a feeling that can quickly grow at Real Madrid. After this poor start, the team needs to regain its bearings, continuity and consistency before the situation weighs more heavily in the stands.

The coach has already begun making adjustments, but does not expect a “radical change” in his approach. He says Real Madrid’s identity is still taking shape and urges the team to move forward one step at a time: “You have to play thinking about the present.” Martínez also describes an opponent as “very physical” and “extremely aggressive”, in excellent form and set to make Real Madrid raise its level. A win would ease the unease before it turns into nervousness.
