Juan Carlos Ferrero has not ruled out coaching Jannik Sinner. “People who say it wouldn’t be ethical aren’t thinking about me. It would be stupid,” he said, adding that he wants to keep developing his coaching career. He has not agreed anything with a player, however: “There will be moves in these next two months, between now and December,” he said, after mentioning Sinner and Rafa Jódar among the names being discussed.
On 15 September, Ferrero spoke of returning to the ATP Tour next year. In an interview with El Larguero, while presenting his book Mentalidad Ganadora, he said that “the instinct to return to competition is growing in me.” He also acknowledged that the reasons for his split with Carlos Alcaraz could “possibly be enough for another book”, while stressing that the matter was personal.
The former coach described his experience with Alcaraz as a “lost battle”. “I lost the battle… and there were quite a few,” he said. Ferrero explained that much of his work with Alcaraz focused on helping him control himself; in his view, Alcaraz’s perfectionism made him excessively hard on himself.
Ferrero also said he had warned Alcaraz about certain company, nights out and social media, and tried to help him tell genuine friends from people with an interest in him. He admits he pushed hard but did not succeed. He is equally open to coaching Rafa Jódar: “Would I like to coach him? I’m not closing the door.” Ferrero added that he had received good offers, especially at the start of the year, but had not been ready then. “Now the time has come.”
