After Manchester City was officially condemned by an independent commission, Erling Haaland reaffirmed his attachment to the club while declining to comment on the decision. His remarks came in an interview with Manchester City’s official media before the match against Liverpool at Anfield, and were published by AS.
“Manchester City means a lot to me, and the supporters mean a lot to me too. I’m a supporter of the club myself and feel that I’m part of it,” Haaland said. The striker also spoke about his connection to the United Kingdom: “This place means a lot to me, and the UK in general. My family lived here for 10 years. It’s a special place for us.”
His comments come as the club’s condemnation for financial offences in the Premier League raises questions about the commitment of its players. Haaland also said that matches against Liverpool, and games at Anfield, were always special to him. He said he had won, drawn and lost there.
The trip to Anfield, scheduled for next Sunday, is to be City’s first appearance since the club’s condemnation in the Premier League investigation was revealed. Separately, David Ornstein reported that Manchester City players’ contracts contained no relegation clause: they had not imagined such a scenario and had always maintained their innocence in the matter.
