Barcelona and Xavi Espart have reached a full agreement to extend the young player’s contract until 30 June 2030. His deal had previously been due to expire in 2028, but his growing role in the first team now comes with a longer-term commitment.
Espart made his first-team debut last season. He then earned a place in the squad during pre-season, wearing the number 12. This season, he has become an important part of Hansi Flick’s plans: he can operate as a full-back on either side, although midfield is his natural position. His ability to join the combination play in the middle of the pitch and make forward runs adds to his versatility.
After playing for the under-21 side during the recent international break, Espart rejoined the first-team group in recent days. He is now preparing for the LaLiga match against Getafe. The contract extension comes as he has established himself in Flick’s plans and secured a place in the senior squad.
