Real Madrid is preparing to add a finishing touch to the Bernabéu: the club’s crest is due to appear on the stadium’s main façade. The addition is eagerly anticipated by supporters and forms part of the details still being completed at the Santiago Bernabéu, seven and a half years after work began.
The large emblem is envisaged beside the word “Bernabéu”, which is already displayed on the stadium. The plan would therefore place the club’s visual identity on a façade that already carries part of the ground’s name. That side of the stadium faces Paseo de la Castellana.
The proposed position is not without controversy. A substantial section of the support had called for “Santiago” to appear alongside “Bernabéu” as well. Their request is intended to show the former historic president’s full name, which the stadium commemorates.
The crest would meet an expectation among supporters, but its planned placement leaves the question of the façade’s wording unresolved. For the club, the emblem would complete the stadium’s exterior; for fans who wanted “Santiago” added, displaying “Bernabéu” on its own does not show the full name they want to see.
