Erling Haaland has reaffirmed his commitment to Manchester City following the club’s official condemnation by an independent commission. The striker did not comment on the decision, issued in the Premier League financial-infractions case, but offered a message of support before the trip to face Liverpool at Anfield.
Haaland spoke in an interview with the club’s official media ahead of the match. He described his personal connection to the United Kingdom: « This place means a lot to me, and the UK in general. My family lived here for 10 years. It is a special place for us. »
He also underlined his bond with the team and its supporters: « Manchester City means a lot to me, and the fans mean a lot to me too. I am a fan of the club myself and I feel that I am part of it. » He urged the group to stay united, support one another and remain positive, while continuing to seek victories and enjoy the moment.
The condemnation gives his comments added significance. Journalist David Ornstein says Manchester City players’ contracts contain no relegation clause, as the club had not imagined that possibility after consistently maintaining its innocence in the case.
Next Sunday, the visit to Anfield by Enzo Maresca’s men will be City’s first appearance since the revelation of its condemnation. Haaland described matches against Liverpool as special and said he had won, drawn and lost at Anfield. He also believes Manchester City supporters will have a good time.
