Julián Álvarez has decided to end his professional relationship with Fernando Hidalgo, his agent for nearly a decade. The decision has been met with relief at Atlético de Madrid, bringing an end to a period of tension over the forward’s future.
Transfer expert Rubén Uría reported that the split followed Álvarez’s disappointment with the way his future was handled during the summer of 2026. Atlético had expressed its dissatisfaction, believing the player had received poor advice. Previously, Álvarez’s dream of playing for Barcelona had not come to fruition, and he had directly held Fernando Hidalgo responsible for that outcome.
The club’s chief executive, Gil Marín, had also strongly criticised the player’s entourage: « There are people who took it upon themselves to mislead him and deceive him. » Álvarez is now without an agent.
The separation is not expected to leave the player without representation for long: Julián and his family members are receiving numerous offers from parties seeking to represent him. His contract with Atlético de Madrid runs until June 2030. According to Rubén Uría, Julián Álvarez’s main aim is to return to his best level on the pitch at the Metropolitano.
