Alejandro Garnacho is expected to remain at Aston Villa after his loan ends, with the club increasingly confident that Unai Emery can help him recover his form and confidence. Villa sources believe he is starting to make progress, while viewing his early difficulties as understandable given the circumstances of his arrival.
The Argentina international joined Villa after a frustrating spell at Chelsea, where he did not report for pre-season training while seeking a move away. Emery nevertheless pushed for his signing, having previously wanted to bring him to Villa when he was still at Manchester United.
Garnacho’s playing time remains limited: he has made only three substitute appearances in the Premier League, totalling 31 minutes. That lack of involvement has raised the possibility that Villa could look to end the loan in January. Two Villa sources, however, said: “They would be surprised if he did not become their player permanently beyond this season.”
Recent performances from the winger offer grounds for optimism. During the international break, he scored in both of Villa’s latest friendlies, against Southampton and Sevilla. Emery is prepared to give him time; Garnacho was not recruited as an automatic starter. The club’s priority is to give him the chance to rebuild his confidence and show the talent that persuaded Emery to pursue him.
