Aurélien Tchouaméni admits he took risks to play at the World Cup. The Real Madrid midfielder played despite a groin injury because he wanted to help France, even though he was not at his best.

He says the injury affected his performances, including in the semi-final against Spain, which drew criticism. In his view, the player supporters saw did not reflect his true ability: he was physically struggling. “That was not the real Aurélien Tchouaméni,” he said. He also explained that he continued in the tournament after discussing his situation with the medical staff.

During the international break, Tchouaméni focused on making a full recovery. He had not been included in France’s latest squad under Zinedine Zidane. His priority now is to return to peak condition and contribute consistently for Madrid.

The midfielder is also aware of the demands attached to the club’s standing. He believes Real Madrid’s reputation brings constant pressure and that the team must deliver. Madrid have endured a difficult period without a major trophy, increasing calls for improvement this season. Tchouaméni remains focused on the team’s ambitions. Tchouaméni said he believed a French player deserved to win the Ballon d’Or.
