Everton is for sale even as construction of its new stadium has been completed. The club’s owner, the Friedkin Group, is reportedly preparing to step away if an appropriate buyer comes forward. It had recently been seeking new investors to help support the project, journalist David Ornstein reports.
The group’s approach is said to have broadened. Rather than bringing in partners to take a stake, it is now reportedly willing to sell the club outright. That possibility would still depend on receiving an offer it considers suitable and in line with its expectations. A sale is not presented as a done deal, but the reported change in strategy opens the door to a change of ownership.
The prospect comes after a period in which the group helped put Everton on a more stable footing. It took charge after years of financial and administrative difficulties and worked to improve the club’s overall position. During its tenure, the move to Hill Dickinson stadium was also completed, an important step for the club both on and off the pitch.
The new venue could also help attract a buyer: it is seen as an asset with potential to increase income and diversify revenue streams, while Everton’s history and popularity add to its appeal. For now, the possibility of the Friedkin Group’s departure exists alongside its continuing responsibilities to the club. Everton supporters are also described as enthusiastic.
