Vincent Kompany was asked about Harry Kane, Michael Olise and Manchester City. At Bayern Munich, the futures of the two attackers are a central topic: Olise is contracted to the club until the summer of 2029, but Bayern also want to secure a long-term future together.
Kane’s contract situation has become an important matter for Bayern Munich, with his current deal nearing its final stages. Kompany, however, says he does not intend to get directly involved in negotiations, which are for the players, their representatives and the club’s leadership. “I am always respectful of this situation and of the discussions needed between the player, his agent and the club,” the Bayern coach said.
He sees his responsibility elsewhere: making sure Kane feels settled and can perform at his best. “My responsibility is to make sure Harry feels good here, that he performs on the pitch, or at least that he is in an environment that allows him to do so,” he explained. Kompany also stressed that Kane and Olise are world-class players who have become vital to Bayern.
Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has expressed optimism about the prospect of new deals for both players. “Both of them intend to stay at Bayern for a long time. I hope — and I am also completely convinced — that Harry will extend his contract soon. Michael will be next,” he said. Rummenigge also believes Kane has a strong case for this year’s Ballon d’Or, citing his goals and trophies.
Kompany was also asked about the financial controversy surrounding Manchester City, his former club. He said his focus was on his work at Bayern. Kompany said he looks back fondly on his spell with City and takes pride in their shared accomplishments, while stressing that his focus is on Bayern and their forthcoming fixtures. For now, he is leaving the contract discussions to the relevant parties as the club seeks to retain two key figures in attack.
