Léa Fontaine has filed a complaint after being targeted by a wave of insulting comments on social media, where her weight and physical appearance came under attack. The French judoka is ranked first in the world in the over-78kg category, but that standing did not shield her from the abuse. The “harassment” is pursuing a French judo champion.
The comments appeared after Fontaine, aged 24, defeated her compatriot Romane Dicko at the judo Grand Prix in Lausanne, Switzerland. The victory, achieved at the end of last August, helped her rise to the top of the world rankings in her category.
Fontaine is preparing to continue competing internationally. Her sporting results have drawn media attention both to the harassment she experienced and to her decision to seek justice. The complaint she filed concerns the insults directed at her.
